A practical sequence for turning raw signal data into decisions you can defend in design reviews and operations meetings.

Workflow

1) Acquisition Integrity

Confirm sensor placement, units, sample clock stability, and anti-alias filtering before collecting data.

2) FFT Configuration

Set N from target resolution: delta_f = f_s/N. Select Hann for leakage control unless strict amplitude bias constraints require alternatives.

3) Spectral Interpretation

Separate fundamentals, harmonics, sidebands, and broadband noise. Track shifts over operating states, not single snapshots.

4) Decision Layer

Define limits, confidence windows, and fallback checks before automating any alert or control action.
